Testimonials
"I feared I might never write again."
After my workdays spent helping others to fulfill their dreams, I watched NetFlix, nibbled on junk food and assiduously avoided anything to do with writing.
I filled two big notebooks with free associative writing, having met my goal of enjoying the process without worrying about a product. With no conscious effort, I think the amorphous ideas I’ve had for a memoir are beginning to take shape. I hope in the coming months to eat less chocolate and to write many, many more words!
"I had ambition and ideas, but wasn’t writing. I was paralyzed and didn’t know why."
A former journalist and business writer, I participated in a local TV competition for writers about eight years ago and came in third.
This opened the door to explore creative writing, and to start a blog, which features personal experience with a big dose of humor.
I had ambition and ideas, but wasn’t writing. I was paralyzed and didn’t know why.
I learned not just about writing, but about myself, which I now know is the key.
"It remains a gigantic gift."
"I'm a Mighty Writer and, Yes, it has helped. It was, in fact, a major help. It provided structure, insight into writing issues, and impetus to keep writing.
I'm focused on writing. That is new to me. That focus has lasted. In and of itself, that was and remains a gigantic gift."
"For years, I have had numerous ideas floating around in my head."
I decided to finally do something about it. One of the best decisions I made was to hire Julia Roberts as my writing coach. I finished a screenplay and half my first book.
Julia helped me dismantle the stories I have been telling myself that would normally keep me from writing.
"I've grown so much from your input."
I've grown so much from your input. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
"I was stuck in my writing and wasn't sure how to get unstuck."
Julia helped me gain a better understanding of my creative process and gave me a set of tools to turn to for when I feel lost and directionless.
Through learning to see the strengths of all the ways that my brain works, I now have renewed appreciation for the importance of self-kindness and strive to maintain a safe and non-judgmental inner environment for my creativity.
The daily practice of sitting down with a group of supportive writers has also been invaluable to helping me develop a habit of making space and time for my writing in the middle of an otherwise hectic day.
I am excited about writing again and look forward to writing many more stories!
"Our classes are so interesting and so relevant."
"It never ceases to amaze me the benefits I receive from Mighty Writers, and the attention you share to our individual paths."
"Better than years of therapy"
“I've always had the sense I was holding myself back. And it was frustrating. Years and years of therapy gave me less insight into how I create, than working with Julia.”
"I am grateful to be part of this group with Julia at the helm."
I am grateful for the inspiration you all provide and the impetus and drive. I learned that I can go back and edit later, I don't have to simultaneously do ideating, developing, implementing, and clarifying, but I can divide them into separate time sequences and use different parts of my brain for different tasks, because the old way of trying to do too much at once or jump through all the processes simultaneously was mentally and emotionally paralyzing.
"I found myself pushing boundaries more."
"I learned that I was putting more restrictions on myself than I realized. I was not pushing rules in my creativity. After talking with Julia, I found myself pushing the rules more than before, in my whole life. “
"I felt rather stuck."
I have learned how to approach writing in a consistent way. It was a joy to be part of a daily writing group. I used the tools, techniques and daily prompts that I learned in the course to help me make real progress in writing my story.
I am thrilled with my momentum and new routine of daily writing. I am so proud to have a tangible accomplishment.
